Our HistorySharon, a lady with Downs Syndrome, was born to Brian and Shirley Hayes (photo) in 1963.
As human beings we are quick to question God in anger and disappointment about the difficult things that happen in our lives. They were pained, distressed and concerned for the future of their little girl, but from the beginning of her life they believed in the great love of God, His supernatural power and importantly that He had a plan and purpose in giving Sharon to them. In considering her future and becoming aware of the limitations of what was available at that time for people with a learning disability, they decided, together with the church that they were involved in, to begin the Redwoods Caring Foundation. That was in 1986. Redwoods now provides a permanent home and family for many people in Edinburgh and Midlothian, and a Day Service in Edinburgh. It is our desire that Redwoods is a `home from home’, and a place of safety and love with quality care enabling people to flourish and achieve their dreams. All of our staff have a deep love, faith and relationship with God and seek to provide excellent support to the precious people that we are called to serve. Over the years our God has been faithful – not least we have seen His financial provision time and time again, and His gentle hand of love and intervention in so many ways both in the lives of those we support and in our staff team. |
